Welcomed at the airport and transferred to your boutique hotel, you have the afternoon to explore Hobart's waterfront and Salamanca before a welcome dinner at one of the city's celebrated restaurants, paired with Tasmanian wines.
A short ferry ride reaches Bruny Island, a foodie pilgrimage of oyster leases, a cheese company, a whisky bar, a berry farm and a fudge maker, all set against dramatic coastal scenery. You graze your way around the island and drink in the view from The Neck.
The morning is for MONA, its galleries, its acclaimed restaurant and its own vineyard and brewery. In the afternoon you tour the cellar doors of the nearby Coal River Valley, tasting elegant pinot and sparkling wine and visiting the historic village of Richmond.
Driving up the east coast you pause at oyster farms and cellar doors before reaching Freycinet. A walk to the Wineglass Bay lookout earns a seafood dinner of just-shucked oysters, crayfish and cool-climate white wine.
You travel to Launceston through the east-coast wine country, with tastings along the way, and arrive in the elegant northern city, the gateway to the Tamar Valley wine route.
A full day exploring the Tamar Valley, one of Australia's finest cool-climate regions, famous for sparkling wine, pinot and riesling. You visit boutique cellar doors, enjoy a long vineyard lunch, and finish with a tasting at a Tasmanian whisky or gin distillery.
After a final Tasmanian breakfast you are transferred to Launceston Airport, departing with a suitcase heavier by a bottle or two and a new appreciation for island produce.

- Cooler climate: Tasmania is Australia's coolest state, noticeably cooler than the mainland, so pack warm and waterproof layers even in summer, especially for Cradle Mountain and the highlands
- Seasons reversed: Tasmania is in the southern hemisphere, so summer (December to February) is the warmest and busiest season, autumn is golden, and winter is cold, crisp and atmospheric
- Driving: Tasmanians drive on the left, and the roads are scenic but winding, so a self-drive is popular and easy but allow plenty of time. Drive carefully at dawn and dusk, when wildlife is active near roads
- Wildlife: Tasmania is famous for wombats, pademelons, echidnas, little penguins and the endangered Tasmanian devil; respect wildlife, never feed animals, and enjoy sightings at sanctuaries and in the wild
- National parks: A Tasmania Parks Pass is required for the national parks such as Freycinet and Cradle Mountain, which is included in your tour
- Best time: Summer (December to March) is ideal for the outdoors and the beaches, autumn for colour, and any season for MONA, food, wine and the wilderness — Tasmania rewards year-round
- Sun protection: Despite the cool air, Tasmania's UV is strong, so bring sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses even on cool days
