FAQs

Maldives Travel FAQs

Everything travellers usually ask us before booking a Maldives holiday.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?
The dry north-east monsoon from November to April brings the most sunshine and calm seas, which is peak season. May to October is wetter with occasional squalls, but it is greener, quieter and noticeably better value.
How many days should I spend in the Maldives?
Four to five nights is the sweet spot for a first resort stay. Honeymooners often take six or seven nights, sometimes splitting between two resorts or combining an island stay with a night in Male.
Do I need a visa for the Maldives?
The Maldives grants a free visa on arrival to most nationalities for a stay of up to 30 days, provided you hold a valid passport, a confirmed hotel booking, a return ticket and sufficient funds. Please confirm the current requirements before you fly.
Is the Maldives only for honeymooners?
Not at all. Many resorts have kids clubs, family villas and shallow lagoons, and there are excellent options for divers, surfers and solo travellers. Local islands such as Maafushi also offer an affordable, culture-rich alternative to resorts.
What is the difference between a water villa and a beach villa?
A water villa sits on stilts over the lagoon, usually with direct sea access, glass floor panels and total privacy, and costs more. A beach villa sits on the sand with direct beach access and is often larger and better value, particularly for families.
How do I get from Male airport to my resort?
Depending on the resort you will take a speedboat (nearby resorts), a seaplane (scenic, daylight only) or a domestic flight plus speedboat for the far atolls. The resort arranges the transfer and we include it in your quote.
Is alcohol available in the Maldives?
Alcohol is served at resorts, on liveaboards and in some airport hotels, but not on inhabited local islands, where local law applies. You cannot bring alcohol into the country.
What should I pack for the Maldives?
Swimwear, light summer clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a rash guard for snorkelling and one smart-casual outfit for resort dining. Pack modest clothing that covers shoulders and knees if you plan to visit a local island.
Is snorkelling good in the Maldives?
It is world class. Many resorts have a house reef you can snorkel straight from the beach, and excursions run to manta and whale shark sites, reef sharks and turtle points. Diving is equally superb.
Are Maldives resorts all-inclusive?
It varies. Common plans are bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive. Given how expensive resort dining can be, all-inclusive or half board usually offers better value. We will explain exactly what each package covers.
How much does a Maldives holiday cost?
It ranges enormously, from a budget guesthouse stay on a local island to a premium overwater villa with a private pool. Because we work directly with resorts, we can usually match a target budget, so tell us your number and we will show you the best options.
Is the Maldives safe?
Yes. Resort islands are private, secure and very low-risk. Standard precautions apply on local islands and in Male. Take normal care in the water and follow lifeguard and dive-guide advice.
Can I visit more than one island?
Yes. Split stays are popular, for example a few nights on a lively family resort and a few nights somewhere quiet and romantic. We handle inter-island transfers and timings.
What is there to do besides the beach?
Diving, snorkelling, sunset dolphin cruises, dhoni fishing, sandbank picnics, spa treatments, surfing, jet-skiing, parasailing and local island cultural visits.
Do you offer honeymoon extras in the Maldives?
Yes. We regularly arrange romantic dinners, floating breakfasts, spa credits, room decoration and honeymoon upgrades. Tell us your occasion when you book and we will request them with the resort.
