Met at the airport, the family drives west with a stop at the wonderful Belize Zoo, home to rescued jaguars, tapirs, toucans and monkeys in a jungle setting, a brilliant introduction to Belize's wildlife. Continue to your San Ignacio lodge for a welcome dinner.
A family favourite: floating on inner tubes through a cool limestone cave system on an underground river, drifting past dramatic formations with headlamps glowing. Gentle, safe and thrilling, it is an adventure the kids will never forget.
Cross the river on a hand-cranked ferry and climb the great pyramid of Xunantunich for jungle views, keeping watch for howler monkeys and iguanas. The afternoon has time for a nature walk or a swim at the lodge.
A short, exciting flight over the reef brings the family to Ambergris Caye. Check into your beachfront hotel in San Pedro and spend the afternoon splashing in the sea and exploring the sandy island streets by golf cart.
A boat trip to the calm, shallow reef at Hol Chan lets the whole family snorkel among turtles, rays and rainbow fish, with gentle nurse sharks at Shark Ray Alley for the braver ones. A fresh lunch is served on the water.
A free beach day: build sandcastles, kayak the calm shallows, cycle to quieter beaches, or take an easy boat trip to spot manatees and dolphins. Plenty of downtime for tired little adventurers.
Another relaxed island day to enjoy the pool and sea, try paddleboarding, or take an optional trip before a farewell family dinner of fresh Caribbean seafood.
A last morning on the sand before the short flight back to Belize City and your onward international flight home.

- Language & currency: English is the official language of Belize, which makes travel refreshingly easy. The currency is the Belize Dollar, fixed at two to one against the US Dollar, and US Dollars are accepted almost everywhere
- Visa: Many nationalities, including UK, US, EU, Canadian and Australian passport holders, do not need a visa for tourism and receive an entry stamp on arrival; check your nationality with us before travelling and carry a passport valid for at least six months
- Best time to visit: The dry season from late November to May is ideal for the reef, the cayes and the Maya sites, while the greener wet season (June to November) brings afternoon showers and is also the Atlantic hurricane season
- The reef and the cayes: Belize sits on the second-largest barrier reef in the world, superb for snorkelling and diving; bring reef-safe sunscreen, as regular sunscreen is restricted in marine reserves to protect the coral
- Health: A yellow fever certificate is only required if arriving from a country with risk of transmission. Bring insect repellent for the jungle, stay hydrated, and drink bottled or filtered water
- Getting around: Belize is small and easy to travel, with short domestic flights and boat transfers connecting the mainland, San Pedro (Ambergris Caye) and Caye Caulker; internal transfers are included in your tour
- Money & tipping: Cards are accepted in hotels and larger restaurants, but carry cash for local eateries, markets and tips. Tipping around ten percent is customary for good service and appreciated by guides
- Electricity & connectivity: Power is 110V with US-style flat-pin plugs, so US travellers need no adapter. Wifi is available in most hotels, though it can be slower on the remote cayes and jungle lodges
